Five-vehicle pile-up on Bayshore Boulevard sends three to the hospital

TAMPA — Three people were taken to a hospital after being injured in a five-vehicle crash Friday on Bayshore Boulevard Friday, according to Tampa police.

A section of Bayshore between W Bay to Bay Boulevard and W Santiago Street will be closed as authorities clear up the scene, police said.

The chain of crashes started when a man heading south on Bayshore in a Dodge Ram pick-up truck rear-ended another motorist near S Carolina Avenue sometime after 5 p.m., police said.

The pickup kept going and struck two more vehicles near W Bay to Bay, police said, crossed over the median, flipped over and crashed into two more vehicles on northbound Bayshore.

Five vehicles and 10 people were involved, including the truck driver and his passenger, police said. The driver lost control of his truck due to a medical issue, police said, but they did not release any other details.

No one was seriously injured, police said.
