One person dead, another injured in boat crash off Courtney Campbell Causeway

TAMPA — One person is dead and another injured after a boating accident on Sunday afternoon near the Courtney Campbell Causeway, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Edward Bartell, Jr. and his wife Maria, both 47, were thrown from a small boat after it made an abrupt turn while traveling near the Rocky Point channel about 4:40 p.m., said Officer James Boogaerts, an FWC spokesman. The boat continued moving and struck Edward Bartell, causing a fatal injury, Boogaerts said.

Maria Bartell was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital as a precaution.
